Pursuant to Article 16 of the Law on Protection of Personal Data (Law No. 6698), natural and legal persons processing personal data must register with the Data Responsible Register (VERBIS) before starting to process data.

With decision 2018/88 of the Personal Data Protection Board of 19/07/2018 on the “Starting Dates for the Registration Obligation”, for companies with a total number of employees of more than 50 or with annual revenues of more than TL 25 million, the deadline for registering with VERBİS the person responsible for the data is 01.10.2018 and the deadline for the registration of the company was originally set at 30.09.2019. With a more recent announcement, the deadline has been moved to 31.12.2019.

For companies which are obliged to register but fail to complete their VERBIS registration on time, a fine of up to 1 million TL can be imposed.
