In Turkey the judicial holiday begins on 20th July 2023!

The judicial holiday in Turkey always begins on July 20, and ends on August 31 and it affects Turkish legal work accordingly.

The judicial holiday in Turkey always begins on July 20, and ends on August 31, as stipulated in Article 102 of the Code of Civil Procedure No. 6100, titled “Judicial Holiday Period.” A new Judicial Year also always begins on September 1. This is general holiday, but there are certain exceptions, and some Turkish legal work and some lawsuits can proceed during the judicial holiday, e.g. cases for custody and alimony, inheritance, bankruptcy, correction of Registry records, and employment disputes, are explicitly stated in the Code of Civil Procedure.

In consequence, if the deadline of a Turkish legal transaction which is not exempted falls in the judicial holiday, the deadline will be automatically extended by 3 to 7 days  after the end of the judicial holiday depending on governing law.

If you have any questions whether you can take a legal action during the judicial holiday, please do not hesitate to contact UT Legal.
